Christmas Countdown Day 22: 24 Hour Salad

This salad is a Christmas and Thanksgiving staple in our family. It is my grandma's version of Ambrosia, called 24 hour salad because you let it set for 24 hours before eating it. Of all the many different kinds of fruit and marshmallow salads i've tried, this one is my absolute favorite!

24 Hour Salad

2 large eggs
4 tbsp. lemon juice
4 tbsp. white sugar
2 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 c. cream, whipped (sweetened slightly)

1 can pineapple tidbits
2 cans fruit cocktail
2 large bananas (sliced)
2 c. mini marshmallows
1 small can mandarin oranges
½ c. Maraschino cherries, halved

Put lemon juice, eggs, sugar and butter in small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with whisk until it becomes thick and bubbly. cool.
Drain canned fruit and stir together in large bowl. Add custard and all other ingredients to bowl. Stir until mixed well. Let stand 24 hours before serving.
