Bald CAN Be Beautiful!

I learned recently that there is a Miss America contestant who has Alopecia! She just won the title for her state (Delaware), and will be competing in... well, whenever they hold the Miss America Pageant.

Now i have NEVER watched the Miss America Pageant - the closest i've ever gotten was through the movie Miss Congeniality. Last year i rooted for the woman who was LDS, because when you belong to a church that is still met with a great deal of scorn in the world, it's nice to see one of us being loved and recognized.

I was excited when i heard about this woman, and really impressed when i heard she actually competed in the Miss Delaware Pageant twice WITHOUT wearing a wig! Not only that, but making it all the way to fourth place as a bald woman!

She is, of course, promoting awareness for Alopecia, and I will certainly be rooting for her when they hold Miss America. Nobody really does research for Alopecia, because it's not a life-threatening disease. It's not even health-threatening. Alopecians are more or less perfectly healthy, and that is one of things that makes it so frustrating, because nobody cares! It's inconvenient, it's irritating, it's a terrible blow to the self-esteem of many, especially those who (like me) didn't have much self esteem to begin with. Most people accept that there is nothing they can do, and learn to live with their condition. But it's nice to see it thrust into the public eye, so there will be awareness and acceptance.

I am attaching a short interview with miss Delaware. Doesn't she just look AMAZING bald?? Wish i looked that good without my wig!
