This weekend marked an occasion for Riley: he got to ride on a real train for the first time! I suppose it was Elijah's first time too, although it was a bigger thrill for our train-obsessed 2 year-old. We almost had a crisis, however.
The dentist had mentioned that Josh would be quite sore and a bit woozy after getting all his teeth pulled on Monday morning (see previous post), and said someone should come to pick him up and be with him on the way home. I despise driving downtown, and parking downtown even more so, so i decided, i'd take the LRT and ride it back with him. We were staying with a friend who lives two blocks away from the LRT station, so it made it easy. Elijah opted to stay behind and play with Eliot, his friend who is the same age, so i just took Riley with me.
As we walked to the station, Riley was so pumped to go on the train! He was singing the word "train" to himself all the way there. But when we got there, and just as we were to buy our tickets, Josh showed up, having got out of his appointment early. Riley threw a doozy of a tantrum all the way back to Sharon's house, screaming his disappointment that he didn't get to ride the train! Boy, did i feel bad for him!
But Josh had a follow-up appointment the next morning, and we decided to all go together so Riley would get his chance to ride the train! He was SO excited! When we finally got on the train, he sat in the stroller with a look of pure joy and awe on his face as he felt the train move. I tried to get a picture of it, but he saw me get the camera out, and all i got was the cheezy grin...
Eventually we did let him out to kneel on the chair and look out the window. What a thrill! They were both just so awe-struck by the whole experiance!
The other two stories aren't really adventures, but things we did today that i wanted to mention. My baby boy got a haircut. His hair had been growing long for 4 months, and was getting pretty wild:
While i'm generally an advocate for slightly longer hair, this was a bit much. Besides, the wavy nature of his hair makes him get really bad knots and cowlicks when it gets too long. So mom cut it off:
He looks so much older!! And that's why i hate cutting the hair short - the baby-ness evaporates! But he'll be a lot more comfortable in the summer heat, anyway. *sniff*
The second new... thing... of the day was that we tried out a product i've been anxious to try for months, ever since i saw them in Wal-Mart way back when they were bringing out the spring and summer merchandise...
These freezies are a bit pricey as far as freezies go, running you $4.77 for a package of 16 at Wal-Mart, though they are a good size - none of that miniature "Mr. Freeze" stuff here. The reason for the expense being that they are juice, not sugar water. That being the case, they are not as sweet as regular freezies, but boy are they GOOD!! This is a freezie even mom can enjoy! And the boys love them too! I got an extra bag to take to Show Me on thursday, since i'm signed up for snack. We'll see how it goes. My boys sure liked them, though...
