Show Me!

"Show Me!" is the name of the play program our boys attend. We first started going when Elijah was three months old! it's strange to think that we've been attending nearly every week (and now twice a week) for the past four years!

We absolutly love it! It gives the boys a chance to get out of the house and play and socialize with kids their age. The ladies who run it are so incredibly awesome, and I've met lots of great moms, learned lots, and made friends. Sadly, most of the friends i made through this program have moved, or don't attend anymore, but we still love going. They do themes every month, and usually have related activities.

Today was pajama day! I took my camera, but completely forgot about it, so i didn't get any photos (*sad face*). But we had lots of fun; we played, did a toddler version of a Mad Lib, and we had pancakes for snack!

The kids were all encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed toy for "Show and Tell". Riley, naturally, brought "Mommy Kitty", which is a stuffed white tiger we got from the Minnesota Zoo years ago, and "Baby Kitty", a little black bean-bag kitty.

Elijah, on the other hand, goes through phases with the stuffies he sleeps with, so i wasn't sure which one he would pick. We tried to encourage him to bring the teddy we made him at Build-A-Bear when he was born. But he picked out a small stuffed mouse, not much bigger than a real mouse, that he had found at Grandmas a while back and was permitted to keep.

I wondered why he picked that toy, as he hadn't paid any attention to it for months, but realized that it was probably due to Josh and I talking about the mouse Jedit (our badger-sized housecat) had caught this morning. We had a problem with mice a while back, but this is the first one we'd seen any trace of since Jedit moved in, and as lazy as he is, we were very proud of him for catching and killing it.

Anyway, back to Show Me!, Elijah brought the little toy mouse for Show and Tell, and apparantly told this story about it (i didn't hear it personally so i'm paraphrasing):
"This is the mouse that my father (yes, he actually said "father"!) had when he was a little boy, and he gave it to me when i was a little boy."

His teachers were impressed, and told him that is must be very special and old. Miss Jamie came over later and told me what he'd said about it, and i laughed and told her it was two years old, if that, and from Grandma's house. She laughed, shrugged, and said, "Oh, well. His story was better!"

Elijah is definitely a storyteller! I am getting increasingly worried, wondering what he's going to tell people when i'm not around to correct him, like when he starts school in a year....
