Joseph Smith the Prophet

There is a musical production by Rob Gardner called Joseph Smith the Prophet. It is an oratorio (a word I just learned), which is basically like a musical narration without acting or costumes.

This production is the Prophet's life in narration and music. It includes some classic restoration hymns such as "The Spirit of God" and "Praise to the Man", a beautiful hymn written by John Taylor, who was with Joseph Smith when he was killed, and later became the third President of the Church, and songs written by Rob Gardner himself. The music is beautiful, and incredibly powerful. It is the kind of music that pierces to your very soul, enlarges your heart, gives you goosebumps.

The user spiremusic (which i believe is the production company for Rob Gardner's work) has posted selections from the preformance "Joseph Smith the Prophet: Live at Abravenal Hall", which you can buy on CD or DVD. Here are some of my favorites, for your enjoyment. See the rest on spiremusic's profile - there are six altogether.

John Taylor's words and Rob Gardner's music, "Oh, Give Me Back My Prophet Dear"

Rob Gardner's words and music, "The Witnesses" (the third man has some serious power!)

Rob Gardner's music, and words adapted from the Lord's revelation to Joseph Smith when he was in prison, and discouraged. Found in Doctrine & Covenants sections 121 and 122. This one makes me tear up every time i hear it.
