10 Months

Maira turned 10 months old yesterday. Time has flown, and because there has been a severe lack of updates (sorry!), here she is!!

Maira hates sleep. The faintest light, the softest sounds, are enough to keep her up for hours past naptime, though when she finally does fall asleep, she's not so easily woken.  She doesn't go to bed before midnight. Catnaps, yes, but if she is put to bed anytime before 11:30pm, we can expect her to wake up and play for at least 2 hours before going back to sleep for the night (and she still gets up for a 3 am feeding). We've tried just about everything. Hopefully it will end soon.

Maira hates baby food. I mean honestly, it's not great, but how does a baby know the  difference? She even hates baby cereals, which my boys practically lived on for months. I finally got her to eat at around 9 months old. I started pureeing our own meals, all packed with salt and flavours, and now she eats... kind of. We're lucky if we can get her to eat a tablespoon of food in a sitting. Two if she's SUPER hungry. Luckily we eat fairly balanced most of the time. I freeze the leftovers in ice cube trays so even when we're having hot dog night, i have something healthy set aside for the baby.

Her favourite food is popcorn (i nibble off the hard bits and give her the puff part). she is absolutely CRAZY about it! Second is sweet potatoes. She doesn't like fruit purees, but will gnaw on an apple core quite happy (and scream when you take it away). She likes just about anything salty, and doesn't really care for anything sweet, though she will make an exception for ice cream or pudding. She may not be the healthiest baby in the world, but we're just happy she's finally eating something!

She's crawling everywhere - and she is FAST! Her sleepers all have dark toes and knees, which is a constant reminder that I need to clean my floors more often. She's trying very hard to stand on her own now, and is starting to put her foot under her when she crawls. I'm not really looking forward to all the trouble she'll get in when she starts walking.

She got her first little tooth about a week ago. She's a miserable sleeper anyway, so i didn't really know she was teething. She likes experimenting on things with that one little chomper. Not biting me yet, though, which is a real blessing.

Her brothers lover her - sometimes too much. they always want to carry her and play with her and fight over who gets to talk to her in the grocery store. Jonah has started trying to wrestle with her. I have to keep reminding him that she's still too young to play rough. she's going to be a tough little cookie when she grows up, that's for sure!

She has had two haircuts since she was born. I finally had to trim her bangs yesterday because of all that wispy hair in her eyes. Having been balding for 8 years, and completely bald for about 6, and a mother of all boys to boot, i'm a bit out of practice when it comes to cutting and styling hair. Hopefully i figure it out before she's old enough to care.

Anyway, she's screaming at me and trying to rip the keys off my keyboard, so i'd better close. Until next time!
